A spotlight on business: Harbourside Physiotherapy and Health

Port McNeill, B.C. - A new business with a focus on health and wellness is operating in the Port McNeill. Physiotherapist and health professional Leo Shaw is North Island raised and returned in 2020 to the community to launch his wellness venture Harbourside Physiotherapy and Health.

In a conversation with the Chamber about his business startup, Leo indicated his approach is simple. "We strive to provide unparalleled health services to our patients. We offer Physiotherapy, shockwave therapy, Intra Muscular Stimulation (IMS), Pre & Post Op rehab, ICBC claims, custom bracing, and exercise programs. We're supportive, honest, and collaborative. We understand that a tailored approach to health is needed, and we are thrilled to be able to offer these services to the North Island community full time."

Harbourside serves the local forest industry, construction, marine and retail sectors in back-to-work programs. It is well documented that source sector jobs are harder on the body that other sectors and chronic conditions and accidents have impacts on worker quality of life. "Understanding the root causes of pain, and developing an overall plan for relief, fitness, and balancing the demands of repetitive motion on your body is key in aging well. We can help you do that through an incremental program designed for workers - on a daily basis for prevention or a return-to-work program." Shaw says.

At the end of the day, Harbourside Physiotherapy and Health supports each patient in facilitating their goal and wants. "Every patient has a right to feel as though they have an active role in their recovery and should be empowered to understand physiology and the ways they can give themselves a better quality of life."
