Rural Business Advisor – Program Manager, Business Bridge Builder Type: Contract, Non-Permanent for the duration of 2 years

OVERVIEW The Port McNeill & District Chamber of Commerce is looking to hire for the term of two years a Rural Business Advisor & Program Manager for the Business Bridge Builder Program (BBBP). This contract position is a dynamic, engaged Economic Development role that is developed to support forest dependent communities and rural businesses in transition. This role is made possible through the Rural Advisory Program facilitated by Island Coast Economic Trust, the Province of British Columbia’s Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program, The Port McNeillChamber and District Chamber of Commerce and our other community partners. The candidate will be responsible for connecting people and businesses to services available for transition and support. The BBBP and fosters business, community, Government Indigenous and non-profit relationships with the goal of helping businesses transition, scale down, expand, fund, sell, or cultivate businesses, depending on what is appropriate, and partner with external organizations to promote a successful business climate on the North Island/Kwakwaka'wakw Territories. There will be group engagement and direct one-on-one advisory services to local rural businesses and community organizations, implementation of economic recovery and diversification strategies, funding application support for Forestry Workers, businesses, and other organizations. The priority of this work will be actionable connection with local businesses, community, Nations and Stakeholders, marketing campaigns to reach people where they are, acting as a liaison between complimentary initiatives, and participation in meetings, programs and initiatives promoted by out-of-region organizations. The ideal candidate will: • Understand principles and modalities for successful community and inter-personal engagement • Have a demonstrated understanding of principles and practices related to both cultural humility and safety and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion • Demonstrate experience in Planning and Program Management • Have the ability to create and support a Marketing Campaign in partnership with the PMDCC and community stakeholders and program partners • Show discretion, confidentiality, and understand the sensitive financial nature of the work and business • Have the ability to financially track the project, setting and keeping budgets in alignment with the operational plan • Have the ability to report on results and define Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) Policy Understanding: • The role requires good working knowledge of the organizational Governance models, systems, and methods of engagement with Government, Non-Profits, and Indigenous Nations • The role will administer the day-to-day operations of the program in alignment with funding parameters and requirements as set in policy and agreements.


Strategic & Operational Capacities:

• In partnership with the board, can identify and plan specific operational goals and task to support the strategic goals of the program on an ongoing basis

• Identifies the required resources to achieve the goals, and can set and implement budgets

• Will regularly through the course of the work conduct internal and external environmental scans to identify emerging issues that either affect the community, or provide opportunity

• Communicates with high level key stakeholders and funders to identify the changing strategic and operational needs in supporting the goals of the program and community

• Support hiring and supervision of junior staff responsible for communication, office management, and public engagement


Visioning:

In cooperation with the PMDCC Board of Directors and BBBP steering committee, the Business Advisor:

• Participates in the implementation of the program vision


Leadership:

• Encourages program participation by facilitating open communication and positive working relationships with community

• Establishes control and follow-up mechanisms for the organization

• Is a trusted community resource who demonstrated high degrees of ethics and confidentiality in sensitive situation

• Responsible for managing junior admin staff working in support of programs


Financial Management:

• Prepares the annual operating budget

• Maintains sound bookkeeping procedures

• Provides the board with regular statements of revenues and expenditures

• Administers the funds of the program, according to the budget approved by the board


Performance:

• Cooperates with, and participates in, the performance appraisal process

• Assists in the assessment of outcomes

• Recommends change when necessary

• Informs the board of directors about situations that affect the managers ability to meet his/her/their goals.


Experience & Education:

· Has a post-secondary degree or education in a related field

· Demonstrates relevant experience

· High degree of computer and software literacy
